Dr. Patti Kim

Dr. Patti Kim has been a naturopathic doctor for nearly two decades, but over the years, she realized that regulating the nervous system is at the core of her work. Patti’s practice helps her patients get to the root of their health issues via individualized nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, and hydrotherapy. She is also trained in classical Chinese medicine and acupuncture, so she uses a combination of techniques, if necessary, to treat her clients. “I love the connection with my patients,” she said. “It’s a lot of energy output for an introvert like myself. But it’s an intimate relationship and I’m talking to my patients on a deep level.

Must-watch film:
The Sound of Music.

Required reading:
I love the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, but Paulo Coelho is an author who holds a special place in my heart.

Go-to snack:
A little goat cheese or gouda with some Persian cucumbers.

Daily uniform:
My scrubs for work, which I call daytime pajamas. But if not that, any unstructured sack dress. I always joke that I like to look like I escaped a chic cult.

Favorite self-care activity:
I don’t get to do it as often as I would like, but floatation therapy. You feel high without taking anything.

Dr. Hemalee Patel is all about getting to the root cause of her patient’s symptoms. The internal medicine doctor practices out of San Francisco at One Medical with a background in nutrition and economics. Double-boarded in lifestyle medicine, Hemalee has a unique understanding of prevention and that everything is intrinsically linked–what you eat, how you sleep, and how you exercise all affect conditions you might come to see your doctor for. “I love that my work is so interactive,” she said. “I also get to design programs, so working with a cross-functional team on many different areas that pertain to health and wellness is really fun and seeing those outcomes is so rewarding."

Must-watch film:
Sabrina with Harrison Ford.

Required reading:
I like Paul Coelho and The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer.

Go-to snack:
Almonds and dark chocolate.

Daily uniform:
High heels. I had flat feet when I was younger and my pediatrician in London told my mom that if she put us in heels, we would develop an arch. So, from the age of 3, my mom had me in little Clark heels. I was known as the doctor who wears heels at the hospital, running into the OR.

Favorite self-care activity:
Napping.
